Trends In Jewelry

Jewelry has its trends and its stages in fashion too. What are the current trends in America? Interestingly enough, it doesn't seem to depend on what age group you're looking at. Across the board, for virtually all ages, brooches or pins have almost entirely left the world of accessories. While many women still have many pins in their collections, they are rarely seen in comparison to the frequency of seeing earrings, necklaces, rings and bracelets. For some reason, pins have seemingly fallen out of favor with the current trends in fashion, and many women are no longer wearing the brooches they inherited from their grandmothers. It should also be said though that women are not throwing them out; like all trends in fashion, pins are certain to come back at some point, the only question is when.

As for earrings, it seems that earrings have seen the most change in jewelry fashions in recent years. The small studs, small hoops and occasional small dangles are being replaced with oversized dangle earrings. These earrings are not like the old fashion of oversized hoops; this current fashion is for oversized dangles, not oversized in length, but in width. Dangle earrings are currently quite long, but their length is not remarkable; the width, however, is quite shocking. Sometimes it's hard to distinguish the hair from the earrings because the dangles seem to fill virtually the whole area surrounding the face. Despite their size, these dangle earrings are quite pretty, feminine and elegant. They are not the 21st century equivalent to oversized hoops that were frequently worn as a kind of rebellious style of jewelry; these dangles are in the mainstream and they are beautiful despite their size.

Everyday wear rings have not changed drastically in recent years, at least not in style. Styles are similar, although an important change to note is the frequency of platinum that is now being used. Traditionally, platinum was often used for wedding or engagement rings, now it is still used for both of those types of rings, but there are also a lot of simple gemstone rings that are platinum. Another current jewelry trend, in wedding bands only, is to have a solid band of diamonds instead of a solid band of gold or platinum. More and more women are choosing this style of wedding band; it can be seen on the fingers of many recent American brides.

Changes in necklaces and bracelets are also minimal, although one trend is that some jewelry is becoming more 'tribal', or having more of an ethnic look to it. While simple solitaire pendants and simple bracelets are still popular, bolder, heavier, more colorful styles in necklaces and bracelets are also hitting the jewelry scene. What is nice about this is that it doesn't seem to be competing with more traditional styles of bracelets and necklaces, whereas the current trend in dangle earrings certainly seems to be virtually eradicating other styles of earrings.

Amber Jewelry

Most gemstones come in one color, one shade only. Some gems come in a couple of different shades, but are basically the same color when you really get down to the specifics of it. While this is the case for basic gemstones, the classics such as those used as birthstones, there are other kinds of stones that come in a wide variety of colors, such as tourmaline or amber. While tourmaline is popular in certain areas of the country and there are only a limited number of people who have heard of tourmaline before, amber jewelry is virtually taking America by storm. It's been starting for a little while already, but it seems that amber is the new gem for just about every taste in jewelry.

This jewelry comes in very small, refined pieces, which seems to suit people with a more delicate taste in jewelry. This sort of amber jewelry is usually made with silver and has a silver chain with an amber stone of one color, or perhaps more, as a pendant in the front of the necklace. The same goes for earrings and for bracelets; one or a few small pieces of amber are set as the centerpiece in a piece of silver jewelry. One of the popular looks with amber jewelry is to either match pendant, earrings, bracelet and ring to be all made of the same silver and the same color of amber. Conversely, you can choose a pendant with three colors of amber, usually orange, yellow and green but are not limited to those, and then have the earrings of one color, the bracelet of another, and the ring of another color of amber. This is done because presumably the necklace will be the biggest piece, so it should contain the most colors and then each of the three coordinating pieces complements with one color of amber.

Amber jewelry also comes in very large, tribal looking fashions. These pieces of jewelry frequently do not have silver or another metal as part of their construction, but rather are constructed entirely of amber, usually with the connecting fibers being in the interior of the pieces of amber. The result of this type of jewelry is a sort of ethnic look, a grassroots approach to jewelry, but one that is elegantly beautiful instead of being beautiful in a simple way, like hemp jewelry is.

When amber jewelry is made this way, with large pieces of amber, the biggest advantage is that you can see the variation within a stone of one color of amber. An orange, a yellow or a green stone has many hues inside of it, but the smaller stones set in silver don't really allow this property of amber to be seen. These large pieces of jewelry are certainly not to suit everyone's style or every occasion, but the rainbow effect they produce, thanks to this internal variation in the stone, is stunning.

Understanding Peridot Birthstone

Peridot, the birthstone of August is a golden green sparkling stone that is quite popular today and has been used as an adornment for thousands of years.

This clear and stunning gemstone is unchanging in color, even when the light fades and is often referred to as "evening emerald". This stone was popular in ancient Egyptian jewelry and is often paired with other gemstones in contemporary sterling silver jewelry.

Peridot was not only popular in jewelry but was also found to be used in Medieval churches as an adornment and accessory for the church. The tranquil green color can be very calming so you can see why it has been so popular throughout the ages.

Peridot has had it's uses as a healing stone as well. In Hawaii, this stone symbolizes the tears of the goddess Pele and teeny stones can be found on some of the beaches. Taken internally, it is thought to help relieve asthma and the stone is also thought to bring power and influence to those who own it.

Peridot which is found in the Red Sea island of St Johns, China, Pakistan, New Mexico, Arizona and Burma is composed of iron, magnesium and silicate can range in color from olive to brownish green to yellow-green. The stone is not very hard and must be cut carefully as it can easily be broken during cutting.

Peridot is a type of stone that is suited for everyday wear. It is not a heavy stone and will not "take over" your whole outfit. This stone requires minimal care and can go with casual as well as formal wear. Although you can wear peridot at any time of year, it is particularly suited for summer wear. The lime green color is a perfect accent for most summer colors including white, turquoise, peach and yellow.

Peridot can be set into necklaces, rings, earrings and bracelets and looks great in both gold and silver settings. This gemstone is striking when used alone in jewelry but also works well with other stones including turquoise, iolite, amethyst, garnet and citrine.

When buying peridot be aware that some stones are treated with waxes or resins to enhance color. The best color to choose when shopping for peridot is a vivid lime green color with no brownish tones. As with any gemstone, the larger the stone the more you can expect to pay and you won't find many larger than 3 carats. As with any jewelry, pick the best you can afford in a style that you love and you can't go wrong!

Basic care for Silver Jewelry

Silver jewelry is more popular than ever. These days, I wear twice as much silver as I do gold but, tarnished silver is such a turn off especially if it can happen overnight. Storing your silver jewelry and how to care for these pieces can be daunting but it's actually quite easy if you know how.

Causes of tarnish and corrosion:

Humidity, naturally emitted sulfur from silver, chemicals in clothing, food (onion, egg, oil based products, salt, milk, vinegar, acidic foods ) wool, felt, anything with rubber or rubber based(rubber bands), latex, skin oils, makeup, perfume and hair products(gel, hair color, hair spray) and more. Some things tarnish silver instantly. Hair color (during application) turns silver black in a second. I learned the hard way.

Jewelry Boxes and Storage

How you store and protect your silver jewelry is very important and easy. What most don't know is that it's not difficult or time consuming if you just follow a few guidelines.

Sterling silver jewelry must be stored in a dark, dry place away from direct sunlight , humidity and heat. All jewelry, need air circulation and silver is no different. Silver should be stored where each piece has space for itself without other jewelry under or on top of it. This allows for the air circulation as well as protecting it from scratches and other potential damage.

Never wrap or store your silver jewelry in:

paper
plastic wrap (baggies OK)
cotton
cardboard
unlined wood jewelry boxes

All silver will slowly tarnish with age regardless. This is part of the beauty of silver and a nature's antiquing. Remember, old silver items are usually worth more if they have that natural patina that only comes over time. If you clean them, they can actually lose value. There is a difference between natural aged patina and that horrible metallic smelling inky black colored thing that's tarnish or really corrosion(silver rust). You can actually feel the difference too.

OK, so you don't want your silver jewelry to tarnish or should I say get that ugly unnatural black inky color quickly. None of us do.

Here are the basics for Cleaning & Polishing

You should consider whether you wish your silver to develop a natural patina or not before cleaning your jewelry.

Best way to prevent tarnish is to wear jewelry and to store properly.

For great ideas on storage and jewelry boxes, please read, The Truth about Silver Jewelry and Anti Tarnish Jewelry Boxes.

To clean lightly tarnished pieces or pieces that you want to continue aging:

Wash in warm water and a mild dish soap(phosphate free) on a soft sponge, rinse and dry thoroughly with a soft cloth.

This works great on many heavily tarnished pieces too.

To clean aging silver: Go light on the soap and just gently run the sponge over pieces you want to continue aging. Rinse and dry thoroughly with a soft cloth.

Caution: If your jewelry has gemstones, be very careful when cleaning. A cello sponge is fine to clean with but, nothing more abrasive.

To clean heavily tarnished pieces:

In a large non metallic bowl, (larger than the silver you want to clean),
Place a piece of aluminum foil in the bottom of the bowl shiny side up.
Place silver on top of the aluminum foil. The silver must come in contact with the aluminum foil.
Pour boiling water into the bowl, enough to the cover the silver.
Sprinkle 3 tablespoons of baking soda over the silver.
Soak for up to ten minutes,
Rinse with water and dry well.

Not everyone wants to take off jewelry when taking a shower, swimming or before bed. You don't need to. What you do need to do is make sure it's rinsed in clean water after swimming and there is no soap residue after a shower. Periodically do a quick cleaning with soap and water and you should be fine. I wear a pair of earrings all the time and they have never tarnished. I do take them out when I get my hair done and if I use hair spray, I throw a towel around my neck to protect my chains and cover my ears with a hand. The little extra effort has saved me cleaning time in the long run.

For storage:

You don't need an anti tarnish jewelry box. There are pros and cons to anti tarnish boxes and the cons outweigh the pros in my book. There are some easy inexpensive ways that allow you to store your jewelry tarnish free in any jewelry box you want.

Have Fun with Making Beaded Jewelry

Not only can you look great by making your own beaded jewelry you can also have a blast while you create to your hearts content. The first creation you should consider making is a beaded necklace for its elegance and simplicity. The second creation you should consider making is some beaded earrings.

Before you begin go to a bead or craft store so you can buy some supplies. The only things you really need to start are some thread or wire and some inexpensive beads. Always start with the inexpensive beads to learn with then move onto your favorite gem stones once you have the basics down.

Let's make a beaded necklace first. In the bead or craft store buy some thread or wire, beads, two crimps and a clasp. Next use more thread than you will actually need so you will have enough to attach the clasp with. Layout your beads on the table in the desired pattern you wish to make on the necklace. Now you can string the beads onto the middle of the thread or wire in your desired pattern. Use a piece of tape at the end of each pattern to hold your place. You can also use a spacer bead instead of the tape.

At each end slide one of the crimps onto the thread or wire. Add one half of the clasp, then string the thread back through the crimp and use needle nose pliers and press firmly on the crimp. Now you can remove the tape.

Now you can wear your creation and start all over again to make more. Once you have the knack you will never run out of ideas. So pursue your new found hobby with all the energy you can muster. You'll find it not only fun but also a great way to learn different avenues of self expression.

Next let's make some beaded earrings. First here are the supplies you will need: 2 head pins ( or eye pins as they are sometimes called), 4 spacers, 4 beads, and 2 fishhook ear wires. Next you will begin by putting the beads on in a simple pattern: bead, spacer, bead, spacer, like that. Ok, now follow closely, make a loop right above the top bead: using needle nose pliers, bend the pin at a 90 degree angle. Then using round nose pliers, form a loop. Wrap the wire on the other side of the loop, back around the wire (in between the loop and the bead). Now cut with wire cutters. Next, take the fish hook ear wire, and open the loop. Attach your drop and close the loop. Repeat for the second earring.

Limitless adventures -- that is what you'll have now that you have mastered the first step in creativity. You'll amaze yourself the more you allow yourself to develop and play. Don't put restraints on your designs, instead just let them flow freely. Even if something seems like a long shot take a chance -- what have you got to lose? Never again will you be afraid to walk into a new adventure. Fun and excitement is what you carry inside of you now.
Watch it explode and mature as you allow yourself to develop your own style and grace. Remember today is the first day of the rest of your creative life.

How to Buy Pearl Jewelry For Women - A Men Guide

With pearl's popularity growing back dramatically, a traditional white pearl strand becomes a kind of must-have jewelry in each woman's wardrobe. Surprise her by giving her a piece of pearl jewelry as a special gift becomes such a romantic thing for a man to do.

However, when I imagine I must look for a PC game for my boyfriend, I understand how hard it is for a man to find right jewelry for his lover. When facing thousands of styles, where to start! As a fan of pearls working in the pearl jewelry industry, I would like to give you some hints. Start from learning some basic knowledge of pearl quality and then find out the style she likes.

Pearl quality

Remember five factors: nacre, surface, luster, shape and size. A good quality pearl is always thick in nacre (nacre thickness higher than 0.4mm is highly recommended), smooth in surface, high in luster (mirror like luster is best), round in shape and big in size. However, shape, size and color are more for personal preference.

If you are looking for a strand, you also need to pay attention to its matching. Lay the strand into a straight line. Compare the size, color, surface, shape and luster of each pearl. A good match in these aspects results in a good strand. Also, you can compare a few strands with each other, to find out the best one.

Pearl jewelry style

When you are deciding the style, there are so many aspects to consider, such as color, pearl size and shape, pearl strand or designed pearl necklace, etc.

You may pay attention to the clothes and jewelry she often wears, or sneakily look into her jewelry collection, by which you may find out her taste and avoid buying a style she already has.

Take her to shop around. Find out the style of shops she always steps in or the jewelry she stops to look.

If you've already got some ideas but not so sure, you may seek for a chance to tactfully find out her ideas. For example, she is reading a fashion magazine, and you come to sit next to her and pretend you accidentally see a celebrity picture, then you make a fake commend, such as "This necklace is too big for her! I think a pink smaller one is better, what do you think?" or "I think this necklace looks better on you!" Women are always excited to talk about fashion. When you seem to be interested in it, she will patiently give you a full lesson about all her ideas of fashion---from hats to shoes. In the end you may skip most of the lesson, but pick up the information you want - which style of pearl jewelry she likes.

If you still have no idea, go to shop around. Ask the shop assistant to show you some feminine style of pearl necklaces or bracelets. Feminine style is universal because it is always suitable for weddings, birthday, anniversary, etc. If she likes, she can also wear everyday. Also, feminine pearl jewelry is always associated with romance and lasting-love, thus all women like it.

Simple Buying Tips for Drop Pearl Earrings

A drop pearl earring incorporates the pearl's quiet beauty to the drop design's attention-getting look. It's dressy and casual at the same time. It draws attention but in a quiet way.

While every woman can wear pearls, not everyone can wear drop earrings. Yes, jewelry does make a difference in how a woman looks but we must remember that they are accessories and their main purpose is to enhance or complement a look. We don't dress up for the jewelry the jewelry dresses up for us. Here's why:

The shape of the face

Earrings, regardless of design, bring attention to the face which is why it is very important to choose the right pair to wear. In the case of drop pearl earrings, the pearl as the focal point of the jewelry is either used attached to a stud or hung from a chain connected to a stud that pierces or hangs from the ear lobe. This design acts as a 'pointer' and where does it point? Down, towards the chin.

Depending on the shape of the face, this design can either flatter or exaggerate. When using drop pearl earrings in a pendant design, this is a good thing to remember, since pendants can draw attention downward.

Why pearls are precious

Before the pearl got strung to hang from your drop earrings, it traveled some ways from the bowels of a mollusk to the hands of the jeweler. Pearls are as rare as they are beautiful and no two are exactly alike, which in part makes them a favorite choice for jewels.

Of the more than 8,000 different species of mollusks, there are only 20 kinds who can produce pearls consistently. That is why natural pearls are quite rare. They also are not always the ideal shape and size to use as jewelry that is why people have turned to artificial methods of producing pearls, also called cultured pearls. This method was perfected by Kokichi Mikimoto of Japan.

Cultured pearls are essentially artificial implants. This is a more ideal method of creating pearls because it affords a certain control over the size and shape. Natural pearls are formed 'naturally' without outside help from humans.

That is not to say that cultured pearls are less valuable than natural pearls. Their only difference is that cultured pearls are produced differently.

Pearl quality

The focal point of a drop pearl earring is of course the pearl. If you're planning to buy a pair, this is not only a beautiful addition to your collection, but is also a worthwhile investment.

The price of the pearl depends upon its quality which in turn is dependent on several factors: the color, shape, size, luster, nacre thickness and texture of the pearl.

Pearl color varies from the usual white, silver and cream to green, blue, gold and black. The color of the pearl depends upon the type of mollusk that produced it and water conditions. Sometimes, in the case of cultured pearls, the kind of nucleus used to stimulate the mollusk can also affect the pearl's color.

Shape is one area where personal taste may be a high deciding factor. The most expensive kind is the perfectly round ones, because these are rare. Drop pearls are shaped like teardrops but their shape doesn't mean they are not valuable at all. A lot of good-quality pearls are drop-shaped and are preferred after the spherical ones.

Generally, the larger the pearl, the more valuable and its size is measured by its diameter. It's worth noting, however that size is not the sole determinant of value. It could be the size of a cherry but if it's dull with lots of imperfections, it should not be worth much at all. Most pearls fall in the 6.5 to 7.5 mm range.

Nacre is the substance from which pearls are made of. This is the same substance that you'll find inside the shell of a mollusk or oyster. Nacre affects the luster and color of the pearl and generally speaking, the thicker it is, the higher the value of the pearl.

Texture is also a consideration, since pearls, unlike gemstones, are prized based on their surface. A clean and smooth surface is an indication of a good quality pearl. It should be shiny, reflective and without spots, bumps or discolorations.

Akoya Pearl Necklace : Chinese Or Japanese?

Beautiful. Elegant. Lustrous. These are just three adjectives normally used when asked to describe Akoya Pearl Necklaces. A contemporary piece of jewelry, each pearl necklace is hand-knotted individually showing a silky luster.

Brilliant Japanese pearls, it is always a pleasure receiving Akoya pearl necklaces. Although something so rare and precious does come with a price. The average price for an Akoya pearl necklace is $4000 dollars. Some stores offer a discount especially during the Holidays though. But if you can afford getting yourself or a significant other one, why not?

Akoya pearl necklaces assure fine beadwork, awe-inspiring luster effect and a brilliance that is so stunning that when worn, they seem to be diamonds fresh out from the sea. Akoya pearl necklaces have then on become symbols for beauty and elegance and one of the most popular pearls the world over. Akoya pearls are graded using AAA, AA+, AA and A. AAA pearls are those belonging to the Top 1% of the harvest. Their luster is excellent and they are 96% blemish free. Their matching is excellent, they have a round shape and a thick nacre.

The AA+ pearls are those that came from the top 5% of the harvest. Their luster is also excellent and they are 90 to 95% blemish free. Their matching is excellent, they have a round shape and a thick nacre.

The AA pearls are those belonging to the Top 20% of the harvest. Their luster is very good and they are 80 to 90% blemish free. Their matching is very good, their shape is round and their nacre ranges from medium to thick. The A pearls are those belonging to the Top 50% of the harvest. Their luster is very good and their blemishes are moderate when set on the light. They have good matching and a round shape.

Every pearl necklace retailer know that if there are two kinds of pearl necklaces competing head-to-head for the demands of the jewelry-loving market, it would have to be the Japanese Akoya Pearls and the Chinese Akoya Pearls. The normal public would go, "What's the difference? They're both pearls." Alas, my friend, you think wrong.

There is still a difference between the two, therefore the competition. When it comes to pearls, Japan has the best and most precious ones out there. Considering that theirs are the most spherical in shape. In the pearl industry, the rounder the pearl, the more valuable it is. Japanese Akoya pearls is the epitome for the classic quality and grace of what pearl necklaces should be.

Pearliculture in Japan is one of the highest paid labor in the world because of the tedious procedure of cultivating and getting the pearls from the oysters and mussels. But because there are so much competition out there, Japanese Akoya pearl industry being number one just had to come to a halt.

It was obvious for the last half-decade but it was only with the strong supply of Chinese Akoya pearl necklaces pouring in did the expected actually occurred. Regardless, even if it were Japanese of Chinese Akoya pearl necklaces, the price remains the same because of the rarity and the precious quality this piece of jewelry represents.

The twist of this whole competing for the best pearl necklace is that Japanese factories are quickly becoming the largest consumers of the Chinese Akoya pearl farmers. Pearls from China are imported into Japan and then later on tagged "Made in Japan."Akoya pearl necklaces today obviously contain Chinese Akoya pearls.

To say that it is Japanese Akoya pearls kinda raises the question if it really is. Is it really the rare spherical black Akoya pearls Japan is known for or is it merely made in Japan? But it is still a consumers right to know whether he is paying the right price for the necklace he is purchasing. Generally, people believe that if the Akoya pearl necklaces came from Japan, it is expensive.

For them to not feel cheated, they must not take the "Made in Japan" tag seriously.Studies show that 80% of Akoya pearl necklaces are actually Chinese cultured pearls. The strands may be from Japan but the pearls are really from China. Another question is that what about the manufacturers that gets their Akoya pearl stocks directly from Japanese farms.

The answer is that Japan pearl farms sell their pearls to factories where the items are bleached, polished, matched and drilled. Never do they sell directly to the retailers. Because of the estimated 80% Chinese pearls and 20% Japanese pearls, it is extremely hard to figure out the understandable profit when it comes to Akoya pearl necklace-making. Regardless, consumers still buy Akoya pearl necklaces simply because the standard of this fine piece of jewelry continue to prove true today.

Its standards remain topnotch and the beauty, luster and elegance of the Akoya pearl necklace be it Chinese or Japanese still make the wearer shine to the nines.

Clothing Article Bracelets

Bracelets are an article of clothing or of jewelry which are worn around one's wrist. Often times bracelets are made from cloth or metal, and sometimes even of rocks, wood, and even precious materials. Almost everyone will have worn a bracelet at some time in their life.

Often times we even wear bracelets without even thinking about it. An easy example of this is a for medical and identification purposes, such as name tags, and health conditions in a hospital. One of the first major fads of braclets to move through was in the 1980's, with 'snap bracelets'. Snap bracelets were metal bracelts that were covered with felt, or another soft material. Their shape was such that it could hold either a straight position, or be 'snapped', to wrap around one's wrist.

Presently we are going through another fad which is that of silicone rubber bracelets which normally have some type of writing on them to symbolize or support something. These bracelets were popularized by Nike and Lance Armstrong through the yellow Livestrong bracelet, which is Lance Armstrong's charitable organization for Cancer research/awareness.

These rubber bracelets are also commonly known as 'wristbands', 'baller bands' or 'baller id bands'.

Not always true, but as in the example above bracelets are often times symbolic of something. Another example of a symbolic use of bracelets, is that with friendship bracelets which are usually self made bracelets given from one friend to another to symbolize their relationship. Bracelts come in all shapes and sizes and can be a very usefull way to remind yourself of something valuable, as your wrist goes everywhere you do.

Simple Tips for Buying Affordable Engagement Rings

If you’re ready to pop the question, you want to find an engagement ring that demonstrates how much you really care for your bride to be.

However, if you’re on a budget a cheap diamond engagement ring might seem impossible to come by.Thankfully, the following tips are designed to help you stick to your budget while you shop for diamond engagement rings. Whether you choose a 14k or 18k gold band, platinum settings, or anything in between, you can find something affordable for your special someone. The 4 “C’s”Prior to shopping, it’s important to research what makes a quality diamond.

Deciding to purchase a ring solely on price isn’t the way to go, and the price of a diamond ring means very little unless you understand the 4 “C’s” of diamond quality. The four “C’s” consist of color, cut, clarity, and carat size.

These components are very important in determining a diamond’s quality, but they can show you that a cheap diamond doesn’t necessarily mean it’s worthless. Granted, an engagement ring that’s 14k gold will cost considerably less than a band that’s set in 18K Gold.

Similarly, the larger the carat size, the more money you can expect to shell out towards a fitting ring. Saving Money on Engagement Rings Once you’ve educated yourself on the components of a high quality diamond, it’s time to figure out how you’re going to find a ring that still retains its quality.

There are several places you can search for without breaking the bank. First and foremost, you can choose to use a family ring as an engagement ring, which will eliminate any major costs right from the start.

However, if that isn’t an option for you, there are several other places to search for cheap yet high quality diamond engagement rings.

For example, consider purchasing a ring from an antique store or pawn shop. This might sound a little odd, but you might be surprised at what you can find if you only take the time to look!

You could also search through jewelry classified ads and find a ring that will suit your needs – you can always have the stone reset, if you prefer.

Finally, you might also want to consider purchasing a ring that has several small stones in the setting rather than one large stone. You’ll save money this way, and still have an affordable diamond engagement ring for your bride to be.

Earrings Can Make You Sexier

Do earrings increase your sex appeal?

Why have women been wearing earrings for centuries?

Why go through the pain of piercing the ears just to wear earrings?

Try wearing a pair of large gold hoop earrings, free spirited gypsy earrings and see the difference.

Just that pair of earrings can glam up any outfit. From jeans and plain tops to that little black dress. Not only do these earrings draw attention to you, they give you a free spirited vibe which is so sexy.

Dangling earrings are especially sexy. The movement of earrings catch the eye. They distract the guys and catch their attention.

The fact is earrings do increase your sex appeal. In ways that are both obvious and subtle.
That gorgeous actress walking down the red carpet, wearing a pair of chandel ier earrings knows how these earrings would make her look even more glamorous than ever.

The dazzling precious gold or platinum, the brilliant diamonds, the beautiful stones. All these used to create that work of art she wears for all to admire.

Chandelier earrings draw attention to her beautiful features. The earrings cascade down the sides of her face, framing her face beautifully. The really long chandelier earrings cascade down your neck, highlighting your neck.

Your neck is a vulnerable, very sexy part of you that guys find attractive.

Show off your neck and bare your shoulders when you wear chandelier earrings, for the sexiest effect.

If chandelier earrings are too much, try linear earrings instead. These slim the face.

There are subtle ways earrings enhance your looks, improving your sex appeal.

Pearls are lustrous.

They reflect soft, diffused light back to your skin which is very flattering. Wearing a pair of pearl earrings can make you look luminous. Especially if you have good skin, or are skillful with makeup.

Diamonds on the other hand, are famous for their fiery brilliance.

Ever stared at a diamond in the spot light and watched the fiery light dance in that diamond?
Mesmerizing, isn't it?

A pair of diamond earrings bring that light to your face. Even a pair of diamond stud earrings can make quite a difference. Subtle no doubt, but somehow, a woman looks more beautiful when she wears a pair of diamond earrings.

The shape of the earrings can also make you look better through optical illusions.

A round face would look slimmer when you wear long earrings that emphasise a vertical line. Long rectangle earrings can be adjusted to make your face look slimmer. Dangling earrings slim the face too.

Flat features look sharper with angular earrings. The sharp lines of the earrings make your features look sharper.

A too angular face looks softer with round earrings. Circles and ovals incorporated into the earring design gives the features a softer look.

By wearing earrings, a woman can look more beautiful, instantly

Bracelets is Simply Nice

A bracelet is a piece of jewellery that can be as simple as a string of leather or as complex as an incrusted metal and gem jewellery. It appears that the origin of the word “bracelet” comes from a Latin word and an old French word that would simply mean “of the arm”. Like any other type of jewellery, the history of bracelets is very old.

The first bracelets are thought to actually have a religious and spiritual purpose, and people in Latin America used to wear them to protect them against the evil eye. They could actually be attached to the arm as well as the ankle. Bracelets were also used for decorative purpose and were certainly the most popular form of decoration in the ancient world.

They would have been very big or thinner and more delicate with sometimes a zoomorphic end.Bracelets can be in a smooth and flexible form or a more solid form like bangles.

Glass bangles are actually very popular in India where they are made from ordinary coloured glass. They would be worn stacked so the movement of the arm would cause them to make a nice sound. On top of bangles, you could find other types of bracelets like charm bracelets, slap bracelets, beaded bracelets or even link bracelets.

Another common form of bracelet is the friendship bracelet. It usually is a simple handmade bracelet with various styles that are given to a friend as a symbol.

Those kind of bracelets first appeared in Central America. In present days, bracelets can still hold a particular meaning and significance and can be used for various different purposes such as medical to describe the medical condition of a person or simply decorative.

It seems that one very popular type of bracelet is called the Cubetto bracelet. They usually are a fine type of jewellery that will be recognised for the way it is crafted. They can be made of gold, silver or even both metals. But among handmade bracelets, the most common style of bracelet would be the link bracelet. Those types of bracelets include charm bracelets, military or simply identification bracelets.

Like in the ancient times, bracelets are still a very important piece of jewellery, and bracelets of any kind would obviously make a good gift, whether it is for a friend or for a person you love. They obviously have to be chosen with a lot of care.

Simple, elegant weddings:

here a romantic lacy dress, simple jewelry styles and vintage jewelry pieces could work for you. Heart lockets or brooches can also help you create an antique feel. To create an elegant, timeless affair, look toward classic jewelry pieces such as strands of pearls and diamond earrings and create memories to last a lifetime.

What is Costume Jewelry

Characteristics of Costume Jewelry :

This type of jewelry is made with base metals that are gold or silver plated and is normally set with glass gemstones or crystals.

To understand what costume jewelry is you must understand what it is not. First, a mini-tutorial on jewelry - there are three species of jewelry: fine, bridge and costume.

Fine Jewelry - is made with precious metals such as karated gold and platinum. If set with gemstones usually only the precious gemstones ruby, sapphire, emerald or diamond will qualify to be designated as 'fine'.

Cartier comes to mind as one quite famous classic fine jewelry designer.

Bridge Jewelry - The name is quite descriptive. This type of jewelry is made of precious metals also - usually sterling silver. The gemstones used are semi-precious such as aquamarine, garnet, citrine, amethyst - the list goes on and on. Basically any gemstone that is not one of the ones listed under fine is considered to be semi-precious.

Just a word here on the quality of gemstones. A poorly cut, bad specimen of Ruby can be worth much less than a excellent specimen of say, Topaz or Opal. So while ruby, emerald and sapphire are the three precious colored gemstones, joined by diamond, it does not always follow that jewelry set with these gemstones is 'fine'.

Normally a jeweler will not waste the money to use karated gold to set an inferior precious gemstone but it does happen.

Bridge jewelry is so named because it is the 'bridge' between fine jewelry and costume jewelry.
Costume Jewelry - This type of jewelry is made with base metals that are gold, rhodium or silver plated and is normally set with faceted glass stones such as rhinestones or crystals such as the brand name Swarovski. This term to describe nonprecious jewelry came into wide use in the 1930's when coined by movie producer Cecil B. DeMille.

Some of the many costume jewelry terms and types are cloisonne (enamel divided by sections of metal) diamante (set with rhinestones) and jewelry made from paper-mache or Bakelite.

Based upon the fact that costume jewelry is not made from precious metals or precious or semi-precious gemstones it might be thought that it is inexpensive. This is not necessarily true. Collectors of vintage costume jewelry have paid up to $5,000 and more for a piece of jewelry.
For example, Bakelite jewelry is incredibly rare and in the world of vintage costume jewelry collecting very popular. A high quality piece of Bakelite jewelry in excellent condition can fetch a price in the thousands.

Of course, there are many contemporary designers of costume jewelry such as Kenneth Jay Lane, Napier and Monet designing necklaces, earrings and bracelets that are reasonably priced and sold at large chain department stores.

3 Simple Tips Before you Buy Jewelry from Ebay

Buying Jewelry on eBay - Three tips to make your purchasing experience positive.

If you plan on venturing into online auctions to buy jewelry review these three basic tips to help make your experience a positive one.

Let’s face it – buying fine jewelry in any venue is nerve racking. A recent news article discussed a couple that purchased a platinum and diamond ring from a well-known jewelry chain.

When the diamond dulled after a few months the couple took the ring to another jeweler for cleaning and was informed that the ring was sterling silver and cubic zirconia. Not good to say the least. The couple eventually got restitution from the original jeweler but in the process was accused of switching the components themselves as a scam to make money.

So, how do you protect yourself when purchasing jewelry in the impersonal online auction arena? Use these three tips: Picture, Feedback and Policies.

Picture – If the listing presents anything less than a stellar photograph that clearly shows every detail – move along. Jewelry is very hard to shoot. A seller that is in it for the long run will either invest in the proper equipment or hire a professional photographer to shoot pictures of the jewelry for sale. This also indicates a professional attitude which, when combined with a clear and well thought out description of the piece of jewelry, can go far in establishing confidence in the seller.

Buying diamonds or precious gemstones – look for a scanned laboratory certificate in the jewelry listing. Recognized authorities include the Gemological Institute of America (GIA), American Gem Society (AGS) and European Gemological Laboratories (EGL).

Feedback – Check out the seller’s feedback and read individual comments left by the purchasers to gauge whether or not you want to do business with this seller.

When considering the feedback remember - this is not like school - anything less than an A+ (97 and above) is considered a failing grade in the world of online auctions.

Also check to see if the seller is considered by eBay to be a PowerSeller. EBay’s criteria for this designation is quite high and goes far towards building confidence that you are dealing with an honest merchant.

Finally, check out the seller’s policies. Most important is the seller’s return policy. If you are not happy with your purchase, you feel it is not as described or counterfeit – how easy will it be to get your money back?

In closing it is emphasized that it is not recommended to purchase expensive, fine jewelry at online auctions if you are not an experienced buyer.

That being said, the policies of any seller (regardless if the purchase is for $1 or a million dollars), should be closely examined – make sure you are happy with the terms of your sale prior to clicking that submit button.

Is Earrings A Right Gifts ?

Earrings make the perfect gift because they are always the right fit. The most basic jewelry wardrobe piece, she may leave the house without a bracelet, but she's almost always wearing earrings.

Most earring styles go with anything, so your gift won't cause her wardrobe issues. The wide variety of earring types, sizes, and prices available makes it easy to find the perfect pair for a gift. She'll remember you every time she wears them.

Because they're small, stud earrings are easy to wear. They go as easily with a cocktail dress as they do with jeans. You'll find a variety of styles in Cultured Pearl Earrings, Diamond Earrings and Gemstone Earrings.

Platinum, 18k gold, or sterling silver hoops give a feminine touch, and precious metals go with anything. For added sparkle, choose a pair with diamonds. Prices start at around $40 for sterling silver hoops.

Drop earrings are made to dangle below their setting. Swaying with movement, they can add an elegant touch. Pearl, diamond, and gemstone drop earrings are available in various settings.
Diamond studs are the perfect gift for an important occasion. If she is more fashionable and follows the trends, give her princess-cut diamond studs, but if she dresses in classic styles, give round diamond studs or cultured pearl studs.

Even if she has several pairs of earrings already, she'll love to add a pair of beautiful hoop earrings to her rotation. Most women prefer either the white metals or yellow gold, so look to her other jewelry to see what metal she prefers.

If studs and hoops are too predictable, sterling silver earrings are available in a variety of fashionable styles. Other attractive options include intricate platinum love knots or elegant 18k gold dangle earrings.

Is Bracelets A Right Gifts ?

A bracelet is one jewelry item she will see all the time, so she can appreciate it often. She also enjoys the feeling of it on her wrist reminding her of you.

Some bracelets are available in different lengths. So before you purchase, be sure to measure one of her other bracelets to be sure she doesn't need a special length.

Bracelets are usually worn on occasions when she isn't working with her hands. Even when not working, a bracelet's proximity to the hands causes it to get bumped and banged, so it must be very durable. Jewelry designers take this into account, so you can be sure the bracelet you choose will last.

This is the classic bracelet. You'll find a variety of chain designs, like the traditional round-link rolo or wheat chain, in a variety of metals like sterling silver, 18k gold, and platinum.

A pearl bracelet is a traditional piece of jewelry. It adds a dressy touch to anything she wears, from jeans to a cocktail dress. Or she can formalize the look with a matching pearl necklace and earrings.

A bangle bracelet can be worn by itself for a simple look, or can be combined with several other bangles. Bangles draw the eye with metallic shine, and several bangles clinking together make a pleasant sound.

Keepsake charms can be added to these popular link bracelets to create a custom piece of jewelry that is as unique as she is. Available in sterling silver.

For an important occasion like a graduation or a promotion, give her a pearl bracelet. This bracelet is perfectly suited for one of these formal occasions, and looks great with a dress.
For a birthday, give her a bangle, or several bangles to wear all at once. Bangles are fun for summer to dress up whatever she's wearing, or she can wear them in winter over a slim-fitting sweater.

The chain bracelet makes the perfect personalized gift for any occasion. With a charm bracelet you can continue to give her charms for special occasions to create a keepsake of memories. Or consider a bracelet with an engraveable tag for a personalized gift.

Is Necklace a Right Gifts ?

The right necklace or pendant will add style to anything she wears.

In addition to being a fashionable gift, giving her a necklace gives you the opportunity to perform the classically romantic gesture of putting it around her neck for the first time.

In general, a necklace is defined as any type of chain or length of precious metal or gems. They are also available in pendant styles that feature a single jewel, pearl or charm, usually suspended from a chain. A pearl strand is a length of closely strung pearls.

Chains go with everything. A fine platinum chain in a choker length will add just a touch of shine. Consider giving her an 18-inch, sterling silver or 18k gold chain to add an element of visual interest to her wardrobe.

Necklaces come in an assortment of styles including heavier chains, links, and braids. Some necklaces feature a fixed set of diamonds or gemstones, where others have stones that run their entire length. Pendants feature charms or jewels that are suspended from a chain.

Pearl strands are an essential element to a woman's jewelry wardrobe. She can wear one with a dress to create a classy look.

The simple design of a solitaire pendant allows all the attention to focus on a beautiful diamond, pearl, or gemstone. These timeless pieces can be worn with a dress or with jeans. Our Build Your Own Diamond Pendant™ feature allows you to select a diamond and setting to create a unique piece of jewelry.

When selecting a necklace or pendant, consider that the length will determine where it will lie on her chest.

16 in. Choker length: Just above collarbones. Emphasizes her neckline.

18 in. Princess length:Hangs over collarbones. The most common length.

24 in. Opera length:Over blouse or dress. A dramatic length.

Measure the length of the necklace from the tip of one end to the other, including the clasp. Ex. A necklace chain may be 16-inches-long, but the clasp may add an additional .75 inches.

Many women start out with a strand of faux-pearls, so a strand of freshwater pearls makes a very nice gift for a young woman. If you have a special occasion like a birthday or your first wedding anniversary, consider a solitaire pendant featuring a pearl or diamond. For a very special occasion like a five- or ten-year anniversary, you might give Akoya pearls, which are the most beautiful white pearls available. She'll remember the occasion every time she wears the gift.

If it's a gift for a fun occasion, like a vacation or a promotion, consider a pendant featuring an 18k gold, platinum, or sterling silver charm — these are fashion pieces just for fun.

Earrings is a wonderful accessories

Earrings come in many different styles. Learn about different earrings designs and the devices that attach them to our ears.

Most jewelry designers just naturally prefer some methods of constructing jewelry to others. However, as the designer is not the only person who is going to be wearing the jewelry it is important to have a range of styles in any design portfolio.

This article will walk you through the different types of earrings and earring hangers.
Obviously, the most important aspect of an earring is comfort. No matter how beautiful or appropriate an earring selection might be, if it is too heavy for extended wear it is going to sit in your jewelry box unworn.

We all know that it is kind of gross to be trying on pierced earrings at a store. But if you have any doubt at all about the weight of the earring carry some disinfectant wipes with you and wipe the earring down prior to trying it on.

Leave the earring on for a few minutes, shake your head - how does it feel? Any discomfort with this brief trial - put the earring back. Never mind about the other shoppers staring at you - they wish they had thought of the idea.

To follow is a quick guide to earring design:

Chandelier - very popular the last few years. As the name implies this style of earring has multi-level branches that hang down from the earring base. Normally gemstone briolettes (tear drop shaped gems) hang from the branches.

Drop - usually one larger gemstone, geometric shape or charm hangs from the earring base normally facing forward. Some drop earrings combine a charm and a gemstone. The basic design of the drop requires the earring to hang in a straight line from base to end.

Hoop - Angelina Jolie is the queen of the gold hoop earrings. As the name implies this earring is round or slightly oval and runs through the piercing in your ear. Hoops come in many circumferences from quite tiny to shoulder dusting.

Stud - Round gemstone earring with a post and earnut that goes through the post at the back of your ear to hold the earring on. Diamond studs are a classic look that are appropriate worn with ripped jeans to evening gowns.

Types of earring hangers:

Fish Hook - this is a type of earring hanger. As the name implies the part that goes through your ear resembles a fish hook

French Hoop - a rounded hanger that is open at the bottom to allow it to past through your piercing.

Leverback - made for both pierced and non-pierced earrings. The back of the hanger flips up to press against the back of your ear to hold the earring in place.

Screw On - non-pierced earring hangers with a terminator that screws up against the back of your ear to hold the earring in place. Rarely seen now except with vintage earrings. Most screw on earrings are extremely uncomfortable to wear for any length of time.

Have a good time with your Beautiful earrings

Selecting the Right Gemstone

Selecting the Right Gemstone

Whether you're a newcomer to the gem world looking to add color to your wardrobe, or a veteran gemstone wearer fine-tuning your look, finding the right gemstone jewelry is a key way to express your own personal style, uplift your appearance and spirit, and convey to others what you're all about. But this doesn't have to be a grueling decision. Here are some practical tips for selecting gemstone jewelry that works best for you.

Developing Your Own StyleFirst of all, any gemstone jewelry you select must be comfortable. For instance, make sure necklaces hang at the "right" length for you and lay well around your neck. Experts offer similar advice for earrings: with dangling styles, make sure they hang at a comfortable length, fit well against the ear and don't tip forward. Likewise, bracelets and rings should fit comfortably and shouldn't slide off with a simple shake of your arm or hand.

Next, the jewelry must be appropriate for your personality and lifestyle. A glitzy necklace that would dazzle for a night out on the town probably wouldn't work for someone with a more casual outlook. Intent is important. Are you looking for a fashion accessory to match certain outfits, a particular season/event or a specific function, such as jewelry for work? Or are you looking for a piece you will wear everyday? Obviously, things like fashion, price, versatility, durability and other factors will play differing roles in your buying decision, based on your intent.

As for which color best suits you, one way to determine this is to take stock of what's already in your closet. What clothing styles, colors, materials, lengths, etc. are most prevalent? This will give you important clues about the specific gemstone jewelry that will work best for you. In addition, look at your makeup, scarves, hair accessories, and current jewelry for more cues about the jewelry colors and styles most appropriate for you.

Finally, consider your physical features: body type, face shape, finger/hand length and width, hair/eye color, complexion and other characteristics. These factors also will play a key role in determining which gemstone jewelry will look best on you.

Seeking QualityOnce you've got the style down, you want to be assured of the quality of any piece you're interested in buying. Keep in mind that quality determines the value of a stone. Like diamonds, gemstones are judged by the "Four Cs" of color, clarity, cut and carat weight, with color the most important consideration, by far. The better the color, the higher the price. Better clarity and better cut also cost more - and generally, the larger the stone, the more it will cost per carat. Even to an untrained eye, many of these kinds of differences can be seen when similar stones are examined side-by-side.

Other factors that may influence the price of a gemstone include whether it is readily available on the market or subject to supply limitations; whether it's a "hot" color or stone right now, or for various reasons may be unpopular; whether it's a single stone or part of a matched set, particularly in special shapes or cuts; and sometimes, its origin (for every stone, there is a particular location known for producing the finest quality variety of that stone - and often, you'll pay more for a stone from that prized region because of its reputation).

But quality extends beyond simply examining the stone. You need to pay special attention to the setting, as well. Make sure the metal holds the stone firmly and squarely in place. Check prongs to make sure they are tight and sturdy. Look at the finish - is the metal well-polished with no pockmarks or other imperfections? Also, turn the piece around and examine the back - a well-made piece of jewelry will have a good finish on both front and back. If the piece is gold, check for a karatage stamp, as well as a company trademark stamp.

This means the company is standing behind the product and assuring you the karatage is as stated. As for bracelets or necklaces, check the clasps, as well. A quality piece of gemstone jewelry will have sturdy, quality clasps.
