The Everlasting Pearl jewelry trend

Pearl Jewelry is Everlasting !!
Class, style, timeless, sophistication, intelligence……….these are a few of the words to describe pearls and the women who wear them.
With so many actresses and other famous women of modern times sporting bigger and more sparkly pearls, pearls have made a big comeback. And it doesn’t look like they’re going to fade away anytime soon.
Things have changed as today it’s just not the size of the pearl that makes it a statement, so much as it is a combination of the pearls themselves along with the celebrities who are wearing them.
Yes, pearls are certainly enjoying resurgence! Celebrities and other famous women influence much of the look and style in today’s fashion world while also setting trends. Yesterday’s style masters, Jackie O and Princess Diana, come to mind as both projected a glamorous elegance that so many women have strived to emulate. And who could forget Audrey Hepburn in Breakfast at Tiffany’s?
These women dressed with flair and accessorized with style and everyone wanted to be just like them.
As homage to Old Hollywood glamour, here’s a look at pearl jewelry made famous by some of our most beloved ladies.
1. One of the earliest known pearl collections is the Mary Queen of Scots pearls. The most famous piece within this collection was a six-strand necklace strung as a rosary and consisting of more than 600 pearls. Queen Elizabeth I of England was a collector and lover of these pearls.

2. A legend known for her diamonds, not surprisingly, also loves pearls. Actress Elizabeth Taylor owns one of the world’s most famous pearls, the La Peregrina pearl, which was given to her in 1969 by then-husband Richard Burton. This very large, pear-shaped white pearl was found by a slave in the early 1500s in the Gulf of Panama. The magnificent gem was owned by a long line of royalty, starting with Mary Tudor, the daughter of King Henry VIII, before Burton purchased it at auction for Taylor. Interestingly, Taylor once misplaced the famous La Peregrina pearl in her white-carpeted home. After an extensive search, guess where the pearl was found? In one of her beloved dog’s mouths.
You can be a star!
So, here’s a little insight on how you can be a fashion standout. There is an endless supply of imitation pearls and costume Jewelry Pearls on the market. Playing around with them won’t cost you a fortune, can be very fun… and might even inspire you to be a fashion trendsetter. Why not mix various lengths or sizes of pearls together or entwine a silver or gold chain? How about mixing your real pearls with your imitation pearls? Remember when a new season hits, freshen your wardrobe with the latest pearls!
Pearls are available in many hues – you could get several colors, lengths and styles and wear them with your little black dress for many distinct looks. But this season the popular color is lavender. And the lavender family are various from pale iris to plum. Have you seen pearl rings in the magazines? From small, understated rings to oversized ones, pearl rings are hot.
As a result, you can see that pearls will never go out of style - they are always a classy and a traditional wardrobe accessory that will never disappoint. You would not be wrong in saying that pearls are forever.

Tips for buying Valentine's day jewelry

Tips for buying Valentine's day jewelry

If the thought of buying Valentine's Day jewelry for your loved one this year leaves you feeling daunted, the Gemological Institute of America (GIA) says that these five easy tips can help relieve your worries.

Tip 1: Capture a heart with diamonds and gems.

Just about everyone, girl and guy, loves jewelry, and it's a romantic sentiment that will strike the right chord on virtually any day of the year. But it's important to know what your special interest likes and will happily wear.

On Valentine's Day, girls especially love carefully thought-out symbolism. Think outside the "jewelry" box, such as having a custom-made heart pendant with a red ruby to prove your passion.

Tip 2: Take two important web tutorials at http://www.gia.edu. GIA helps educate the public on how to purchase gems and jewelry and has created two online tutorials that teach the basics of diamonds and gemstones. Each site features an interactive guide -- Lucy in the "How to Buy a Diamond" tutorial, and Ruby Tuesday in "How to Buy a Gemstone in 7 Simplified Steps." Lucy and Ruby reveal some of the most important information needed to make the right buying decision, including the famous Four Cs of diamond value -- color, clarity, cut, and carat weight -- which GIA created in 1953.

Tip 3: Don't wing it. Go to a trusted source.

You'll be an angel when you deliver a delicious box of chocolates, flowers, or football tickets, along with personally engraved jewelry this Valentine's Day. "But the important thing is to ask a jeweler or store if its associates have been professionally trained," says Brook Ellis, GIA's Education vice president. "Find a jeweler with Graduate Gemologist or Accredited Jewelry Professional credentials -- two of the jewelry industry's most well-known and respected titles .Choose your jeweler carefully -- he or she will be of immense help to you throughout your jewelry buying career."

Tip 4: Don't buy a diamond without a GIA report. It's the most trusted authentification in the worldwide jewelry industry, and you should always ask for one when you purchase a diamond. You can request a GIA report from your jeweler or send the diamond to the GIA Laboratory on your own. Visit http://www.gia.edu/gemtradelab/31505/services.cfm for more information about all of GIA's Laboratory services.

Tip 5: Laser inscribe the diamond with a romantic message and get extra security.

The GIA Laboratory will laser-inscribe any message on the gem's girdle (outside edge) for a romantic touch. The diamond's unique report number can even be inscribed and permanently recorded, which can later provide verification if the diamond is ever lost or stolen. With laboratories in New York and California, research facilities in Geneva, Antwerp, and Bangkok, and 14 campuses worldwide, GIA is regarded as the world's foremost authority in gemology. For more information about the GIA Laboratory, Research, or Education, visit http://www.gia.edu, or call 800-421-7250.

An independent nonprofit organization, GIA is recognized as the world's foremost authority in gemology. Through research, education, gemological laboratory services, and instrument development, the Institute is dedicated to ensuring the public trust in gems and jewelry by upholding the highest standards of integrity, academics, science, and professionalism.

Mens Jewelry trend

Thanks to the inspiration of rock stars and athletes, think David Beckham, more and more men are looking to accessorize their look with jewelry.

But these younger men are not looking to accessorize themselves with the traditional tailored look of their fathers. Men’s options today are modern, sleek and designed around alternative metals that have historically been used from the car, manufacturing to the space industry.

Thanks to modern technology, alternative white metals such as tungsten carbide, titanium, and stainless steel are being mixed with rubber, diamonds, cable, silver and gold accents to create a different but very sophisticated, fashion forward look for men. While cuff links have always been the strongest category other then watches, bracelets are now also becoming one of the classification jewelry staples. Men seem to be very acquiescent to touting these contemporary metals on their wrists followed by necklaces and pendants.

As well, since more and more women are buying these as gifts for men, these alternative metals make gift giving affordable as well as chic.Stainless steel is a popular choice for men’s jewelry due to its strength, durability and resistance to scratches. Stainless never changes thus it makes for a metal that you can wear playing sports, cheap enough to travel in, sophisticated enough to wear to a formal event and comfortable enough to wear on a daily basis.

To create rings, pendants, bracelets and chains using steel, these designs are usually mixed with a malleable iron to give its strength, durability and elasticity so that it won’t break when struck.Tungsten carbide has the density feel of platinum but has a dark undertone that gives it a rich oxidized look. Made from a tungsten and carbon compounds, it has similar characteristics to titanium. It is an extremely hard metal and is scratch resistant material for jewelry but it may be shattered due to the inelasticity of the metal.

Titanium has also undergone new technological changes. The least dense of the 3 alternative metals, it is extremely strong and durable. This metal’s Achilles’ heel is that the colors can oxide like silver. Titanium has always had a “cool” factor due to it’s space age look and feel but thanks to new patented process called anodizing, titanium now comes in black and various other colors.
